Prizes and Prize giving
This information relates to the 2011 event. It will be updated closer to the 2012 event.You may recall that in the past The Legend Marathon and Arthur's Half Marathon had over $25,000 in cash prizes available. As you may also know, this event is owned and operated by the Legend Charitable Trust (LCT) - an organisation formed to ensure the principles of Arthur Lydiard (the world's greatest running coach) are not forgotten, and are in fact continued for generations to come.
As such, we at the LCT have some plans for the future, and ways in which we would like to spread the Arthur Lydiard philosophy to the people, beginning (as always) with the grass roots.
The LCT is a non profit organisation, none of the 5 trustees are paid for their efforts, and any surplus made from the event will be spent on the development of these programs. So, it for this reason that felt it was right to decrease the prize money on offer.
It is not to detract from the elite level at all, we very much appreciate the support of the Legend event from a good range of elite runners, and long may that continue, but we hope you agree with us in that it is crucial that we continue to foster and grow the philosophy of Arthur Lydiard, and in how own words, "see the whole world running"...
The Legend Charitable Trust (LCT) was established in 2008, and its main focus is with ensuring that the legacy built by Arthur Lydiard lives for generations to come.
Secondary goals, but no less important, are around ensuring the Lydiard principles are maintained in perpetuity, to be spread and used in the lives of everyday people.
Forming the LCT was also an expression from those involved from the beginning that it was not about individuals, but a vehicle which could protect the valuable property that is The Legend event, as well as forming the basis for solid and sustained growth.
The LCT has developed the following foundation principles in which will shape the future direction of the Trust - the LCT will, in all its decisions made and in all it does be;
- Inspiring
- Accessible
- World Class
- True to the Legacy
- Ian Winson - Chairman
- Katherine Winson - Secretary
- Garth Gilmour - author and close friend of Arthur's
- Gary Lydiard - Arthur's son
- Aaron Carter - founder and Managing Director of total sport
