We will have for the third time, a half marathon option at this event.

The reason being that it allows those that are not quite The Lydiard Legend Marathon event, a chance to participate and complete a quality half marathon event, and be a part of a very special and unique event.

It also gives an element of progression to the event, and we hope that some of you that do Arthur's half marathon this year, may step up and aim to do The Lydiard Legend Marathon in future years.

The course is primarily the same as The Lydiard Legend Marathon , but we have taken out the big climb (up West Coast Rd), we will turn half marathoners left into Carter Rd from West Coast Rd, then right onto Shaw Rd. Half marathoners will then re-join The Lydiard Legend Marathon course again when they turn left onto Scenic Drive.

Half marathoners will also miss the loop on Exhibition Drive. Please note: the half marathon is open to walkers and runners alike, you will have 4 hours to complete the course.

For safety and traffic management reasons, all participants must finish their respective events within the following times.

Training Schedules by Arthur Lydiard

Thanks to Arthur's good friend Garth Gilmore we are able to offer those looking for some training pointers Arthur Lydiard's original marathon and half-marathon schedules. These were published in Run To the Top in 1962. They were in good old-fashioned miles and yards but are re-produced here in metric distances. They are Arthur's own Marathon training schedules for his famous Waiatarua course, which is the course in which this event is run on.
